Find or Create
Find or Create ⌘n is the main way to create notes in Nota. It asks for the name of the new note and shows you similar notes as you type. This way of creating notes has a few advantages that are especially relevant when working with a lot of notes:
- Offers an easy way to change your mind about creating a note (simply press
esc
to dismiss). - Shows you related notes as you type, which prevents duplicates, helps with consistent naming, and reminds you about notes that might work better for what you have in mind.
- Keeps the current note visible as you're naming the new note which is useful because it is often something in the current note that triggered you to create the new note.
Asking for a name before creating a note is also consistent with the other ways for creating notes in Nota, including creating notes from the file manager or from links (type a link to a note that doesn't exist and open it).
This way of creating notes is also used in the app Roam Research (and similar) — if you're coming from there it should feel familiar.
